June 11, 2021 Update - Baseball Ontario - Stage 1 Clarification

As we have previously advised, Baseball Ontario, along with 6 other outdoor Ontario Provincial Sport Organizations, met this morning with representatives of the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism & Culture today regarding our concerns with the Roadmap to Reopening plan.

The meeting went very well, and, while we are unable to disclose publicly details until the government finalizes its regulations, Baseball Ontario is encouraged by the direction the government is taking with the Roadmap to Reopening for Step 2 and Step 3. We look forward to continued discussions with the Ministry as Step 2 and Step 3 regulations are finalized.

For Step 1, which start June 11th, the Ministry has confirmed that at a large, outdoor facility such as a baseball diamond, more than one group of 10 players is allowed, and the groups cannot cross over.

Baseball Ontario will continue to allow 2 groups of 10 players on one age-appropriate field. We encourage our members to connect with their local municipality for permits, and begin training in compliance with Baseball Ontario's Return to Sport Protocols as soon as possible.

The Ministry also confirmed that each sport defines for its members what is 'practice' and what is 'training'. For baseball, all practice activities, with the exception of scrimmages, constitutes training. Scrimmages and games are not permitted in Step 1.

We have been advised that there will be an FAQ document released by the government in the next few days that will close the loop on questions and clarifications on what’s allowed in Step 1.
