June 19, 2020 Update from Newmarket Baseball President, Ted Williams
Hello Newmarket Baseball Families,
This is to inform you that the Newmarket Baseball Association has cancelled its 2020 baseball season. It is with a heavy heart that the NBA Board of directors has made this difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Baseball Season. We can appreciate your disappointment in our decision which was not made lightly. We know that for many of you and us, a summer without baseball is unthinkable.
With the Provincial restrictions, York Region entering stage 2 and the announcement of the Town of Newmarket update as of June 15th, regarding its outdoor program, we have been advised they will not be issuing any permits for the use of the sports field at this time. However, for those of you that wish to play some ball you may do so as Private Citizens but not under the umbrella of the NBA. You will have to follow the Town of Newmarket outdoor guidelines.
After carefully considering all of our options, including our guidelines and protocols that would be necessary to protect the health and safety of all our players, coaches, volunteers, umpires and their families, the Board has made this decision.
For those in our competitive program a decision was made by York Simcoe Baseball Association to also cancel the entire 2020 baseball season. This includes our Elite, Rep and Select teams and all Sanctioned and Provincial Qualifiers effective until September 7, 2020.
Families should watch for an update regarding refunds shortly. If you were registered as a house league player you will received a full refund for all fees paid.
Elite, Rep and Select players you will be hearing from your team managers shortly regarding refunds of team costs and registration fees.
Please be patient as it may take some time to process refunds. We wish you and your family a safe and healthy 2020 and we hope to have you back in 2021.
Ted Williams
President NBA.
