The Town of Newmarket has a weather hotline that updates the status of all diamonds and fields within Newmarket. This phone line is updated every weekday and when needed on the weekends. The line is updated at approximately 3:30 pm on weekdays. If the Hotline has not been updated, please wait and check again. Get in the habit of checking the Hotline every time you are using a Newmarket diamond/field.

YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE AN EMAIL EVERY TIME A GAME OR PRACTICE IS CANCELED DUE TO RAIN. CONTACT THE HOTLINE AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.
-
IF THE DIAMONDS ARE DECLARED CLOSED, YOUR GAME/PRACTICE AND BATTING CAGE TIME IS CANCELED. YOU CANNOT USE THE DIAMONDS/BATTING CAGES. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE WEATHER; IT MIGHT BE BRIGHT AND SUNNY JUST PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED GAME/PRACTICE OR BATTING CAGE TIME. THIS DOES NOT MATTER. STAY OFF THE DIAMONDS AND OUT OF THE BATTING CAGES. WE WILL TRY TO RESCHEDULE YOUR GAME/PRACTICE AND BATTING CAGE TIME.
-
IF THE HOTLINE HAS DECLARED THE DIAMONDS OPEN. ALL PLAYERS, PARENTS, MANAGERS, COACHES, TRAINERS AND UMPIRES NEED TO ATTEND THE GAME. ONCE AT THE GAME, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MANAGER (HOME TEAM) FOR ANY REP AND SELECT NEWMARKET TEAMS TO DETERMINE IF THE PLAYING FIELD IS SAFE TO PLAY ON. IN THE HOUSE LEAGUE DIVISION, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BOTH HEAD COACHES TO DETERMINE IF THE PLAYING FIELD IS SAFE TO PLAY ON. THE MANAGERS OR HEAD COACHES SHOULD CONSIDER THE SAFETY OF THE PLAYERS, THE CONDITION OF THE DIAMOND (BOTH INFIELD AND OUTFIELD) AND THE WEATHER FORECAST TO DETERMINE IF THE GAME SHOULD BE PLAYED. A MANAGER OR HEAD COACHES (H/L) CAN CANCEL A GAME PRIOR TO THE BELOW MENTIONED UMPIRE/COACHES MEETING. IF A GAME IS CANCELED, WE WILL TRY TO RESCHEDULE THIS GAME IF POSSIBLE.
-
ONCE THE UMPIRES CALL FOR THE “COACHES MEETING” (APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE START OF ANY GAME) IT NOW BECOMES THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE TWO UMPIRES TO DETERMINE IF THE GAME SHOULD BE PLAYED. THE UMPIRES SHOULD ALSO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE SAFETY OF THE PLAYERS, THE FIELD CONDITIONS AND THE WEATHER FORECAST IN DETERMINING THE STARTING OR STOPPING OF ANY GAME. THE UMPIRES MAY, IF THEY WISH ,TAKE TIME TO SEE IF THE WEATHER WILL IMPROVE PRIOR TO CANCELING THE GAME. THIS TIME PERIOD IS NOT ADDED TO THE LENGTH OF THE GAME (HOUSE LEAGUE GAMES). IF A GAME IS CANCELED, WE WILL TRY TO RESCHEDULE THIS GAME IF POSSIBLE.
-
IMPORTANT: LIGHTNING SAFETY AND PREPAREDNESS: IF THUNDER ROARS GO INDOORS
PRIOR TO THE START OF ANY GAME, IF YOU ARE ON A DIAMOND WHEN YOU HEAR THUNDER OR SEE LIGHTNING ALL PLAYERS, COACHES AND ANY OTHER PERSON ON THE FIELD MUST EXIT THE DIAMOND, DUGOUT AND SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. STAY AWAY FROM THE DIAMOND FOR 30 MINUTES AFTER THE LAST RUMBLE OF THUNDER OR LIGHTNING STRIKE. THIS 30 MINUTE TIME FRAME RESTARTS AFTER EACH THUNDER ROAR OR LIGHTNING STRIKE.
ONCE THE GAME HAS STARTED IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE UMPIRES TO SUSPEND PLAY FOR THE REQUIRED TIME PERIOD AND THEN DETERMINE IF THE GAME SHOULD RESTART OR BE CANCELED.
WE HOPE THESE GUIDELINES WILL HELP YOU IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER. STAY IN TOUCH WITH YOUR COACHES FOR MORE INFORMATION. LET’S HOPE FOR SUNSHINE ALL SUMMER.
