June 8, 2020 Update from Newmarket Baseball
Good Afternoon Baseball Families,
It's hard to believe that we are into the second week of June and not playing baseball! Some of you may have heard that parts of the province are able to move into Phase 2 of reopening which includes team sports. Unfortunately, York Region has not yet been given the go ahead to move forward at this time.
We are still very much in a holding pattern when it comes to return to any form of organized baseball. At the same time, this past week brought a tiny glimmer of hope that we may get back to playing ball at some point this summer. Please keep in mind that there are four primary bodies who must first give their approvals in some fashion:
- Government of Ontario
- Baseball Ontario
- YSBA
- Town of Newmarket (regardless of the above, nothing can happen until the Town opens diamonds and allows team play)
As per the Ontario.ca website (which you can access at the link below) phase two includes allowing teams sports to resume for practices and training only.

Outdoor Recreational Team Sports
Outdoor team sports may resume, if physically distanced, for training only and with no scrimmages or games.
- This includes limited access to facilities (e.g., no locker rooms, no change rooms and no showers).
- Access to clubhouse and other amenities will be limited to washrooms, emergency aid and equipment management.
