Introducing Newmarket Baseball Instructors for 2023!
2023-02-13Newmarket Baseball would like to welcome Dan Telford, Jason London,Todd Betts "Bettsy" and Steven Reiss who will be joining us this season as hired instructors!
Newmarket Baseball Association made the decision to hire instructors to further develop our coaches and players througout the 2023 season.
We would like to welcome the following instructors:
Todd Betts (AKA Bettsy)
Steven Reiss
Jason London
Daniel Telford
These instructors will work with elite, rep and select teams during their off season training to enhance practices and team workouts. Throughout the playing season beginning in May, the instructors will continue to work with competitive teams and will also join the house league coaches and players by offering development clinics and extra practices.
Todd Betts (Bettsy)
Todd Betts was drafted in 2003 by the Cleveland Indians in the 14th round before spending over 20 years playing between MLB, Japan, Taiwan, the Canadian Olympic Program and the Intercounty Baseball League. He began his coaching career in 2008 between Team Canada and the Ontario Prospects helping to develop professional hitters yearly before moving to the Ontario Blue Jays, Toronto Mets, Lamigo Monkeys (CPBL Taiwan) and 4 Corners Development.
Todd Betts played professional baseball from 1993 to 2006 6 years with the Cleveland Indians, Florida Marlins, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.
Todd became a member of the Baseball Canadian Hall of Fame in 1991.
Steven Reiss
Former Atlanta Braves Pitcher
Steven Reiss was a professional pitcher with the Atlanta Braves in 2002 and 2003. He played at the University of Houston and Seminole State College of Florida and was invited to Team Canada in Summer of 2000. Steven was Drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the Amateur Draft in 2000 while attending high school.
Steven was ranked #125 Pre-Draft Best Prospect in North America by Baseball America and #3 prospect in Canada Pre-Draft by Canadian Baseball Network Bob Elliot

Jason London
Jason London is a registered professional coach with the Coaching Association of Canada and a current Assistant Coach with the U22 AAA Scarborough Stingers. Jason brings 30 years of coaching/playing and officiating experience at the youth and intermediate levels in baseball. Jason specializes in quality baseball instruction, primarily with pitching being the main focus for development.
Jason has served on the board of the Scarborough Baseball Organization and is currently the Umpire-in-Chief of the Wexford Agincourt Baseball League. Over the years, Jason has organized and run many in season/off season player development clinics. Jason’s coaching philosophy is simple: he wants to give his players the physical and mental tools that they need to prepare for their next level of play, whatever that may be, on and off the field. “Success in the classroom is paramount to success on the field.”
Off the field, Jason is a respected instructor and entrepreneur. He has 10+ years of multi-sport education, post secondary teaching experience (including curriculum development) and has completed training in First-Aid, CPR and Concussion Protocols.
Jason brings a positive work ethic to Newmarket Baseball Association, has a no-quit mentality, and is a role model on and off the field.
Daniel Telford
As a Newmarket resident, Daniel grew up playing for the Newmarket Hawks and since finishing his competitive playing career at South Dakota State University, has been continuing to wear the Hawks
uniform now suiting up for the Senior Hawks of the GTBL. Daniel was a key contributor to the Jackrabbits success in his four years at the South Dakota State University. He compiled a career .313 batting average with an outstanding Senior campaign batting .410 for the Jackrabbits and leading his conference in Batting Average, Home Runs, RBIs and Slugging %, on route to a conference championship as well as being named conference MVP. A four year letter winner and team Captain, Daniel split time in the outfield and was the teams Designated Hitter.
Dan has been providing baseball instruction since 2013 in Newmarket and surrounding areas through both team and
private lessons.
Baseball Accomplishments include 2013 Summit League Tournament MVP
2013 South Dakota State Jackrabbits Team MVP, 2013 South Dakota State Jackrabbits Big Stick Award (Top Hitter) and 2009 South Dakota State University Jackrabbits Freshman of the year.
