Interested in becoming an Umpire for Newmarket Baseball?
We are looking for individuals aged 12 and older who are interested in becoming an umpire for Newmarket Baseball.
INTERESTED IN BEING AN UMPIRE??
All new and returning umpires must take a certified OBA Umpire Clinic to umpire for Newmarket Baseball in 2020. If you have never taken a clinic before you need to register for a Level 1 clinic. If you have taken a clinic before, you need to recertify annually - you have to take a clinic each year to maintain your umpire certification.
As a reminder the Level 1 certification is a 2 year program and the Level 2 certification is a 3 year program. Level 3s must write and online exam every year to re-certify.
You do NOT have to take the Newmarket Clinic. The clinics are run by Baseball Ontario and are available at various location. You can see a list of available clinics at the Baseball Ontario website at the link below. New clinics are still being added. For your convenience, there will be a Level 1 Clinic and a Level 2 Clinic held in Newmarket.
Level 1 Clinic

Time: 9:00am to 4:00pm (Check in at 8:30 AM)
Location: Newmarket Community Centre, Hall #2, 200 Doug Duncan Drive, Newmarket
Cost: $30.00
Please bring a lunch water, pen, running shoes

Introductory Umpire Clinic for Rookie Ball - Manadatory (weather permitting)for all 12 and 13 year old New Umpires
All new umpires who are 12 and 13 year old are required to also take the Rookie Ball Clinic. The date and time for this clinic will be posted soon.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Umpire Responsibilities
For many individuals, umpiring for Newmarket Baseball Association will be their first real job. Umpires can expect to undertake the following responsibilities:
- Showing up on time
- Taking charge of a game
- Creating an environment for the kids to have fun playing baseball
- Making quick, accurate decisions and standing by those decisions
- Balance umpire commitments with school, playing baseball and other activities
- Keeping a schedule and record of games umpired
- Communicating their concerns, questions and problems to the VP Rules of Play and Umpiring in a timely manner
Requirements
Umpires for the NBA must be able to meet the following requirements:
- Umpires must be born in 2008 or earlier (12 years or older in 2020)
- Must attend an OBA Umpire Certification Clinic
- Previous baseball experience is not mandatory, however definitely is an asset
