Minor Peewee AA Hawks finalists at Darien Lake tournament
The Newmarket Minor Peewee AA Hawks, sponsored by Chaggares & Bonhomme Chartered Professional Accountants, were finalists at the Darien Lake, NY tournament on Memorial Day weekend.
The Newmarket Minor Peewee AA Hawks crossed the border on Memorial Day weekend and proudly represented Canada in reaching the finals at the annual Darien Lake, NY tournament that featured 22 regional travel teams from upstate New York and the surrounding area.
The Hawks opened the tournament will a 3-1 win over the Utica Hurricanes but then lost 7-5 to the Middleport Dynamites in their second game. In their final preliminary round game, the Hawks took an early lead on the Depew Knights and held on for a 10-7 win.
Starting the playoff round, the Hawks defeated the Niagara Falls Expos 6-1 in the quarter-finals and followed-up with a 9-6 semi-final win over the Lancaster Red Hawks (in a game featuring an over-the-fence home run by Tyler).
The championship final was a rematch against the Middleport Dynamites. After spotting the Dynamites to a 6-0 lead after two innings, the "real" Hawks showed up and battled but could not capitalize on several scoring oportinities and finished on the wrong side of a 7-2 final score.
A 4-2 overall record, a silver medal, and countless turns on the Ride of Steel and other amusement park rides made it an amazing weekend for the Hawks!
Congratulations to Tyler, Keegan, Michael, Jensen, Scotty, Matthew, Graham, Carter, Kade, Adam, Kouki, and Noah, and coaches Rob M, Rob H, Kevin, Jamie, Gerard, and Dave.
