Little Caesars- 2013 Junior Rookie Champions!

2013-09-05

In a battle of 2 teams who were on a collision course all season to play in the Junior Rookie baseball championship, Little Caesars slipped by Mastermind Toys in an epic game. The game had many big plays by both teams and the talent out on the diamond was incredible to watch.

Mastermind Toys came out of the gates in the first inning with excellent hitting. The momentum quickly changed though as Maddox Quesnelle made an unassisted triple play to wipe out the Mastermind Toys base-runners and stunt the potential of a big inning. That momentum was carried over on the defensive side as Antonio Cerqua then made 2 outstanding defensive plays, one of which was a double play that closed a stellar defensive inning by Little Caesars.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Mastermind Toys shifted the momentum in their favor as Spencer McMurter made a great catch on a fly ball with the bases loaded and the final at bat for Little Caesars. The first inning ended with Little Caesars out in front 6-4. In the 2nd inning both teams got hot with the bats and Little Caesars led 15-12 at the end of the 2nd.

In the 3rd and final inning the defense was again the difference in the game as Joshua Lightstone and Andrew Kobryn made multiple outs and limited the Mastermind Toys offense to 5 runs and a 17-15 lead going to the bottom of the 3rd inning. It was the bats of Mason Carey (game winning RBI) and Armaan Wasti which helped Little Caesars go on to win a hard fought tense game by a final score of 22-17.

Congrats to both teams on an exciting final and Little Caesars for winning the Junior Rookie championship.
