Expedia Cruiseship Centers Peewee Select Hawks Consolation Champs in Orillia!
2014-07-08
The Expedia Cruiseship Centers Peewee Select Hawks have had a great start to their season, reaching the finals in both of their tournaments so far. Great team play has resulted in plenty of hardware, including a Consolation Championship last weekend in Orillia. On the weekend of June 6-8 the Hawks made ...
On the weekend of June 6-8 the Hawks made the short trip to Innisfil for their first tournament of the year. Several come-from-behind wins secured a spot in the wild card game Saturday night. The bats came on strong in that game against Innisfil 2, and the Hawks prevailed 14-10. Then, the Hawks defeated Innisfil 1, again coming from a 1-run deficit in the 4th inning to win 10-6. The boys then faced the Brampton Blue Jays for the championship. The final was a tight game, with both sides playing strong ball. In the end, the Hawks came up a little short, losing 10-8. Game MVP awards were handed out to Brandon, Josh, Reid, Pierson, Bryn, and Ben.
After finishing the school year, the Hawks travelled to Orillia for the Buck Pringle Tournament held June 27-29. The Hawks were dominant in round robin play, defeating Waterdown (8-1), Muskoka (13-1), and Milton (16-5). Their lone loss came to their YSBA rivals, Beaver Valley, in which a few errors in 1 inning cost them the game (8-2). The Hawks were eager to play in the consolation finals against Martingrove despite the hot, humid weather all weekend. As usual, the Hawks were on the board in the top of the first inning, scoring 4 runs to take an early lead. Ultimately, that would be all they needed to win the Consolation Championship. The Hawks scored 4 more in the top of the second inning, and never looked back, winning 13-3 over 7 full innings. Over the weekend, strong pitching came from Reid, Ryan, Bryn, Brandon, Ben, Zack, and Carson B. Providing offensive support with clutch hitting and aggressive base running were Pierson, Josh, Carson H, Reid, and Alex.
Congratulations Hawks on two successful tournaments!
