Two tournaments so far in 2014 for the JKR Computer Services Minor Mosquito Rep Hawks, and two impressive results including one championship!

On the weekend of June 4-6 the Hawks made the short trip to Bolton to face mostly YSBA/TBA AA and A rivals in their first tournament of the year.  The Hawks finished first in their divisional play by defeating Bloordale Selects 18-7, Bolton 12-0, and Toronto Playgrounds 12-7.  The Hawks were on top of their games in the playoff rounds, first defeating Bloordale Rep 15-5 in the semi-finals and then shutting out Royal York 12-0 in the championship final.

On the weekend of June 20-22 the Hawks travelled down to the annual Niagara Falls tournament and in their first game faced the North Toronto Giants (who are in first place in the YSBA loop and who have handed the Hawks their only loss up to this point).  Both starting pitchers and defensive lineups were strong and a close back-and-forth game saw the Hawks emerge with a 6-4 win.

After the Hawks defeated St. Catharines 28-1, they met a strong Oakville #1 team that would determine a berth in the playoff round, with the winner of this game advancing to the semi-finals and the loser relegated to the mix of several teams vying for a lone wild card playoff spot.  The Hawks played some of their best baseball of the year to come out on top in a 17-12 offensive shootout.  (Niagara Falls would claim the wild card over Oakville.)

In the semi-finals, the Hawks faced another AAA team in Guelph #1 and played another outstanding game to win 12-7.

The Hawks were matched against OBA rival Brantford in the championship final, and after being down 6-4 in the 5th inning they tied the game at 6-6 in the 6th inning.  After a scoreless 7th inning, the two teams went into extra innings where the Hawks scored one in the top of the 8th to take the lead.  But Brantford rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th, and with the bases loaded and two out in that inning won the game with an infield single.  A heartbreaker for the Hawks.

Two tournaments, a 9-1 record, and one championship plus one runner-up trophy!  Nice run by the Hawks.  Congratulations to all of the players and to manager Dave Repath, assistant coaches Jamie Cherutti, Gerard Campeau, and Kevin Hennessy, and pitching coach Rob MacKenzie.

Next tournament action for the JKR Computer Services Minor Mosquito Rep Hawks is in Barrie in early July.
