Opening Day Information Saturday May 10, 2014

Newmarket Baseball would like to extend an invitation to all our players and their families to join us on Saturday May 10th at 9:00 am to official start the 2014 Baseball Season!!  Our players will be proudly displaying their team colors as they parade down to the Fairgrounds to join the NBA Executive Members, Town Officials and the Mayor of Newmarket, Tony Van Bynen who will be throwing the “First Pitch” and officially opening the diamonds for a fantastic summer of baseball!!

We invite all of our new and returning players to come out and meet your friends, your team, your coach and all of us!  Please see below for answers to all of your questions!!

WHEN: Saturday, May 10, 2014

WHERE: All Our Kids Play Park (also known as the Dinosaur Park). The Park runs north off of Timothy Street in Newmarket. It is between the Newmarket Community Centre and the condo lofts at 543 Timothy St. The train tracks run along its western border.

TIME: The parade will start at 9 am and we will begin lining up at 8:15 am. Most events conclude by 10:30am, but stick around to watch T-Ball players have a fun game or stay to watch the Battle of the Rep Teams where our Minor Teams challenge the Major teams in each division!

PARADE ROUTE: We will march east on Timothy Street, cross Prospect with the help of York Region Police, continue down the hill to the main diamond, and end up at the main diamond at McKnight/The Fairgrounds Park. We expect about 500 parade participants will all get there by 9:30 am.

OPENING CEREMONIES: There will be speeches given by NBA Executive Members as well as by Town Dignitaries. The Mayor, Tony Van Bynen will throw out the first pitch and open the 2013 season!!

PARKING: There is limited parking available at the Community Centre. Many families park at the fairgrounds/curling club and walk to where the parade starts. That way they are close to their vehicle when the festivities are over!  This is probably the best place to leave your vehicle.

PARADE FORMATION: Teams from each division line up behind their team banner (e.g. Peewee teams line up behind the Peewee banner, Mosquito teams behind the Mosquito banner.....etc)

HELP! I DON’T KNOW WHAT TEAM I’M ON: Don't worry. Look for members of the NBA Executive wearing green shirts and holding clipboards.  The Executive Members will have team rosters and can direct you to the right team.

THE BAND:  The Newmarket Citizen's Band will be leading us.

ICE CREAM!! Mister Softee’s Ice Cream Truck will be on site selling ice cream and cold drinks.  (Weather Permitting)

"MLB Pitch Hit & Run": **  Pitch, Hit & Run is an exciting baseball skills competition that provides boys and girls 7 to 14 years of age the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities. This local competition will be held following the opening ceremonies at the Fairgrounds. All children 7 to 14 years are welcome to participate, there is no charge and you do not have to be registered with NBA to participate.  Winners can move on to the Sectional Competition.  **(We are currently looking for volunteers who are able to run this event.  If you are interested please call the NBA office at 905-715-7566)

BUFFALO WILD WINGS:  Buffalo Wild Wings will have their street team on hand handing out coupons for free wings!  Your coach will be giving you a Eat Wings Raise Funds card to help fundraise for Newmarket Baseball.  Show your card at Buffalo Wild Wings each time you visit and 15% of your total bill (not including alcohol) will be donated back to the association!!

SUMMER 365:  Summer 365 will be on site with information on their facility locate at

T-BALL GAMES: T-Ball players will have games on the McKnight Diamond following the ceremonies. T-Ball families don't forget your gloves!

BATTLE OF THE REPS: The Rep and Select teams will square off in each division following the T-Ball games.  The minor teams have challenged the major teams in each division.  This is a friendly competition for our rep and select players to showcase the skills they have been practicing all winter in preparation for the 2014 season!

WHAT TO WEAR: Dress warmly as mornings are still cool, but if you already have your team jersey, put it over top to show your team pride! Don't forget your baseball cap.

COACHES: All of our coaches and assistant coaches are encouraged to attend the parade and bring any jerseys and caps that haven't been given out yet. If you can't attend, see if there's another parent from your team that is going who can hand them out.

BASEBALL PANTS: Grey baseball pants are mandatory for all house league players in the Junior Rookie Division and older. Pants will be on sale for $20 at the Fairgrounds in the old snack bar following the Opening Ceremonies.
