The rain over the weekend of June 7-9 did not deter the Newmarket Rookie Hawks from capturing the Bolton championship trophy in the first tournament of their young season.
The Hawks opened the tournament with a convincing win over Port Hope and followed up with a win over host Bolton. Rain forced an adjustment to the schedule, and Newmarket once again faced Bolton in the semi-final. Bolton kept the game close but in the latter innings the Hawks defense stood tall to secure the win.
Newmarket faced a strong Whitby team in the final but took control of the game after a strong first inning en route to the championship.
