Peewee Hawks Win first Game of CNE Tournament
2010-08-21
North Newmarket Lions Peewee Hawks won their first game of the 2010 54th Annual Lions CNE Peewee tournament beating Thorold 11-0. The next game for the Hawks is Thursday the 26th. Newmarket is the only Association to have entered teams for all 53 years of the tournament.
2010 marks the 54th year of the annual Lions-CNE Peewee Baseball Tournament, the oldest and most prestigious event of its kind for 12 – 13 year olds. Established in 1956, this highly successful tournament has guided more than 17,000 young people through the ecstasy and the agony of the baseball tournament experience. For more than half a century, rising in the early hours of the morning, young people from throughout Southern Ontario have boarded buses and made the journey to the Canadian National Exhibition to compete for the coveted championship title.
Thirty-two teams from Toronto and Southern Ontario compete over 9 days in a single elimination tournament. Expected to compete against Toronto area communities of North Toronto, Scarborough, Etobicoke, East York, Bloordale, Weston, North York and Royal York will be rep teams from Mississauga, Orillia, Brampton, Whitby, Thornhill, Brantford, Hamilton, Peterborough, Ajax, Oakville, Newmarket, Georgetown and Vaughan.
LIONS CLUBS throughout Southern Ontario are solidly behind their local teams and 'roaringly' support this prestigious event.
The teams may vary from year to year but the excitement of a competitive ball tournament and a day - or five, at the Exhibition is always a summer highlight for thousands of youngsters and their families.
