22U AAA Newmarket Hawks Win Baseball Canada National Championship!
Newmarket Hawks are Baseball Canada 22U NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!
The Newmarket 22U AAA Newmarket Hawks emerged victorious at Baseball Canada’s 22U Men’s National Championsships on Aug. 7, 2022 with a 3-1 win in the gold medal game hosted in Halifax.
Congratulations to all the players for the success this week along with head coach Doug Lunney and his coaching staff of Alex MacDonald, Brian Bratt, Rob Hums, Matthew Biemiller, and Rich Lunney!
Baseball Canada hosts national championship tournaments for the top club teams from each province at the 13U, 15U, 18U, and 22U age groups. Newmarket Hawks' 13U teams qualified for Nationals in both 2005 (in PEI) and 2015 (in Montreal), while the 22U Hawks are the first-ever national champion from Newmarket.

The 22U Hawks battled through each intense game at the Nationals and stepped up to the plate when it counted most. After a six-game winning streak at the Baseball Ontario Eliminations Tournament to punch their ticket to Halifax, here are the steps taken to earn the title of NATIONAL CHAMPIONS:
Game 1 - Win 2-1 vs PEI in extra innings (walk off)

Game 4 - Win 5-2 vs Kitchener (leading only 3-2 after the 6th inning)
Quarter-Finals - Win 2-1 vs Manitoba (walk off)
Semi-Finals - win 9-1 vs New Brunswick (leading only 4-1 after the 6th inning)
Championship Final - Win 3-1 vs host Dartmouth in front of a raucous home crowd of 3000 and over 800 live stream on YouTube
