Minor Midget AA Hawks win OBA Championship!!

2017-09-05

For only the 20th time in the 58-year history of the NBA a Hawks team has captured an OBA title.

The Minor Midget AA Hawks secured the OBA title after holding on to win the OBA finals against the Burlington Bulls.

The team began the tournament Friday by defeating the Stouffville Yankees 4 -3 on Friday night.  Saturday was an up and down day with two walk-off wins against Royal York (9-8) and the Mississauga Majors 8-7), bracketing a 10-7 loss to Burlington.  Sunday morning began with 5-0 win over the Oakville A’s behind Zach Morgan-Yeates second strong start of the tournament, allowing the Hawks to advance to the finals.

The Hawks got out to an early lead against the Burlington Bulls, and did not relinguish the lead throughout the game. The Bulls made it a close game drawing within one by the end of the 6th.  The 7th inning saw the Bulls advance their lead-off runner to third base with one away setting up the critical moment of the tournament.  The Bulls number three hitter drove a fly deep to center, however the tying run was cut down at the plate after a tremendous thrown from Joe Furfaro to catcher Brendan Giasson who applied the tag to cement the win.

Congratulations to head coach Matthew Bielmiller, his coach staff, and his players.  They would like to recognize the tremendous support of their families throughout the season, as well as sponsor Barry Foot and Expedia CruiseShipCenters, Richmond Hill & Thornhill.
