Newmarket Minor Peewee AA Hawks crowned champions at Aurora-King tournament
2016-06-27The Minor Peewee AA Hawks, sponsored by Chaggares & Bonhomme Chartered Professional Accountants, went 6-0 to capture the Aurora-King Tournament championship on June 27
After a semi-final loss at the Bolton tournament and a finals loss at the Darien Lake tournament, the Minor Peewee AA Hawks earned their first tournament championship of the season in Aurora after facing six tough opponents in unseasonably hot and sticky weather on the June 25-27 weekend.
The Hawks earned the second seed in the quarter-finals after preliminary round wins vs. the Western Ontario Baseball Allstars, Whitby, and Barrie.
In their quarter-final game, the Hawks were down 5-3 to Toronto Playgrounds with two innings to go and fought back for a 7-5 victory. In their semi-final game, the Hawks faced YSBA rival Aurora and scored three insurance runs in the 5th inning to turn a 3-2 lead into a 6-2 final.
In the championship final, the Hawks faced YSBA-TBA league leaders North Toronto. The Hawks scored early and often to take a 7-0 lead after the 1st inning and never looked back en route to a 12-2 win.
The Hawks pitching and defense were especially stellar as they gave up only 10 runs total to six quality opponents. The Hawks bats were consistent all weekend long and especially clutch in the quarter-final and semi-final games.
Congratulations to players Noah, Jensen, Keegan, Adam, Kade, Kouki, Graham, Matthew, Scotty, Carter, Michael, and Tyler and to coaches Jamie, Kevin, Gerard, Rob M, Dave, and Rob H.
