Newmarket JKR Computers Major Mosquito Hawks win Silver Bat Tournament

After 36 straight years of sharing the Silver Bat with other clubs, the 2015 edition of the Newmarket Major Mosquito AA Hawks made it home-sweet-home for the championship trophy for three of the past four years after defeating Aurora in the final of 40th Annual Newmarket Silver Bat tournament over the weekend of July 24-26.

The 2015 JKR Computers Mosquito AA Hawks, under head coach and 2014 YSBA Coach of the Year Dave Repath, followed in the footsteps of the 2012 Hawks (head coach Doug Lunney) and 2013 Hawks (head coach Brian Bratt) as the only Newmarket teams to win the historic Silver Bat.

 

And it was a hat trick of sorts for the 2015 Hawks: not only was it the third-ever Newmarket win at the Silver Bat , it’s now 3-for-3 for the them as it was their third tournament win of the season in three tries with a cumulative 14-1 record at Niagara Falls, Bolton, and the Silver Bat

 

The 2015 Hawks defeated Richmond Hill, Vaughan, and Bolton in preliminary round play to punch their ticket to the semi-finals.  There they met OBA AA rival Milton and won a 3-2 nailbiter.  In the championship final before a large crowd, the Hawks faced a strong Aurora team who upset North Toronto AA to win their division then won a close 9-6 semi-final against undefeated Martingrove.  After falling behind 3-0, the Hawks – aka Comeback Kids – were at it again and stormed back for a 15-5 win.

 

“I am so proud of all of our boys,” said Coach Dave after the tournament.  “The Silver Bat is very special and it's a memory our boys will have forever.”  Congratulations to Carter, Kade, Graham, Jensen, Michael, Noah, Scotty, Adam, Ben, Keegan, Tyler, and Matthew, and to Coaches Dave, Kevin, Gerard, Jamie, and Rob for their historic win.
