HOW ARE THE TEAMS FORMED?
Players play with their teammates and are combined with players from other teams to form rosters of 10-12 per team. Teams then play in fun, non-competitive games following standard league rules with an NBA umpire on-hand.
WHERE ARE THE GAMES PLAYED?
The Town of Newmarket sets up a temporary diamond on the south end of Fairy Lake among all of the other Canada Day booths and exhibits at the park.
HOW MANY GAMES ARE PLAYED?
Players will play in two games over the tournament sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
WHAT MAKES THIS TOURNAMENT SO SPECIAL?
The NBA Junior Rookie Tournament is a longstanding and traditional part of the Town of Newmarket’s Kanata Festival at Fairy Lake, and there’s lots of Canada Day traffic in the park with a fun and festive atmosphere as we celebrate our country’s birthday. Over the years some of our players have even hit home runs over the short outfield fence at the temporary diamond which a huge treat for the big crowds who stop by to watch! And all participants receive a small prize to thank them for participating.
Happy Canada Day! We hope to see many of you on July 1!
