Rep Coach Applications

2008-08-22

Thank you for all the applications for the position of Manager (Head Coach) for the Newmarket Baseball Association (NBA) Representative teams for the 2009 Season. Congratulations to the new Rep Coaches. The 2009 coaching staff is posted on the REP TEAMS web page. The NBA is looking at all alternatives for teams for the 2009 playing season which may include Tier 1 & Tier 2 entries at certain divisions. We encourage all coaches interested in Coaching at higher levels to apply. There will be no separate Select Manager application process. If you are interested in coaching a Tier 2 Rep team, please apply.

In order to facilitate player development and provide the highest quality baseball experience, all NBA coach applicants shall be NCCP Certified Level 1 (or must obtain prior to the 2009 playing season), and be willing to obtain Level 2 Technical.

If you have any questions regarding the selection process, please e-mail Ted Williams, VP Rep
dibco@bellnet.ca, or Tim Brown, President, tim.brown000@sympatico.ca.  All applications must be before 12 noon, Thursday, September 4, 2008.

For your convenience, applications may be e-mailed to Ted or Tim.
Coach Selection Committee interviews will be conducted on Sunday, September 7.  All applicants will be notified of decisions no later than September 10, with team try-outs beginning in mid-September.

What coaches will need to coach an OBA Rep team in 2008:

All new coaches must first begin training by taking an online course available at http://nccp.baseball.ca/. The fee for the online course is $37.45 and gives you access to on-line video drills, materials, practice plans and skill development tools in an easy to follow format. You continue to have access to the site after completing the on-line portion of the entry course.

In order to be certified to coach any Baseball Ontario program in 2008 (except Eliminations), all coaches must achieve Initiation Coach Trained Status, which means they must take the online course and the Initiation Module Workshop.

In order to be certified to coach at the 2008 Elimination Tournaments and National Tournaments should a team advance, all coaches on the team must be Regional Coach Trained, or Fully Certfied Level 1 in the old stream. Please see the chart below to determine what modules you must take based on the training you currently have.

These modules can be taken in any sequence.  All coaches certified in the old stream who will attend the 2008 Nationals must also take a free online evaluation called Making Ethical Decisions.
It is available at http://nccpeval.coach.ca/production/med/e/index.asp?Language=English

Coaches certified in the Old Stream (level 1, level 2, etc.) will not lose that certification as long as they continue to coach, and that certification will be recognized by both Baseball Ontario and Baseball Canada. If you are certified in the old stream, you must be fully certified level 1 (technical, practical, theory) for Baseball Ontario programs, and for Eliminations and Nationals in 2008. If you are missing the theory component, it is still offered by the Coaching Association of Ontario (www.coachesontario.ca) under the name Introduction to Competition Part A.

Please note that the chart above refers to requirements for 2008 only.  More training will be required to coach in Eliminations and Nationals in 2009.
