Hawks win Battle of the Birds!

Some serious coaching going on...
The Rookie Select Hawks opened the 2014 season by sweeping the Richmond Hill Phoenix in a doubleheader at Richvale Park.
RICHMOND HILL - The Newmarket Select Rookie Hawks put on an impressive display of offence and defence on Sunday, sweeping both halves of a doubleheader against the Richmond Hill Phoenix. Both games were called due to run differential and official scores of 11-1 and 21-11 were recorded.
"Wow, I mean, wow," said Coach Tim afterwards. "I mean, I thought the kids were okay and all, but wow."
Coach Tim was asked to elaborate.
"Well, it really was a great day all around. Like I said to the players in our post-game meeting, we accomplished all 4 objectives. Number 1, we tried our best. 2, we displayed good sportsmanship. 3, we had fun. And, 4, we won. Our infield defence was strong, with Michael, Cruise, Chris and Luke playing key roles. Hank and Jason both looked great behind the plate. Sebastien, Owen, Gabriel and James played some great outfield defence, and Joey and Justin hit bombs all over the park. It was nice to see batboy Noah get a plate appearance as well."
The Hawks practice on Thursday evening at Rene Bray in preparation for their home-opening double-header on Sunday, 4 p.m. at the Fairgrounds vs. Markham. Good seats are still available.
